Self-defence Gone Too Far?
It started with drinking cans of bourbon and taking selfies for Jamie Cust,22, and his former colleague, Jesus Bebita, 41. They met up on the evening of 18 December 2018 at Bebita’s house in Scone, New South Wales, Australia.
They met in February 2018 while they were both working at an abattoir. Bebita came from the Philippines to Australia on a working visa and had a wife and child back in the Philippines. Bebita was a mentor to Cust while they were working at the abattoir. Bebita was described as someone who stood up for his fellow workers when it counted and always put his hand up to help others.
They took five selfies together in the kitchen just after 9 PM, where they were seen close and smiling. Jamie Cust woke up to Bebita sexually assaulting him and freaked out. In his police statement, Cust described what had happened as “I went to bed and, when I woke up, my pants were down and he was rubbing his penis on me. He was touching my penis … then I freaked out.”
The Crime
