Jerrod Murray’s past
Jerrod Murray grew up in Asher, a small town in Oklahoma. From an early age, he displayed odd behaviours. Murray attempted suicide on his fifth birthday. Fortunately for him, the knot did not hold and his brother later found him lying unconscious on the ground. He did not mention his reason for his attempted suicide.
Growing up, he did not fit in. He was socially awkward and often wore a suit to school as he liked the “weight” of it. He would also be wearing a suit when he commit the murder. His school reports noted that he was very bright but lacked the motivation to do his work. Eventually, his grades suffered and he did not graduate from Asher Public School. Instead, he obtained his GED and later enrolled at East Central University in Oklahoma.
Murray did not display any violent behaviour or tendency growing up that could hint at his future crime with an exception of one incident at East Central University. On the evening of 3rd October 2012, Murray, fellow freshman Wyatt Freeman, Generro Sanchez , and friends were playing videos in Freeman’s dorm room. Murray began to talk about his expertise in martial arts. He claimed would rather die than “tap out” (admit defeat in martial arts). Freeman suggested testing this out saying, “Okay, let's see how committed you are to your martial art.” Murray agreed to let Freeman put him in a chokehold causing Murray to pass out.
